The genealogy of the Santo Daime doctrine and its ramifications throughout the years, since the birth of Mestre Raimundo Irineu Serra until the present day. A live and mutable panel, as the doctrine expands and the new generations will go cementing the several branches and lines of our barrack: The Queen of the Forest’s battalions. It is worth to mention that most dates and information came from personal accounts and other researches, susceptible of corrections that can be done at any given moment. Most churches abroad cannot be cited due still of legalization processes of their practices in their respective countries.

Any information that comes to contribute with the doctrine’s genealogy will be very welcomed. The glossary is placed on the bottom of the document, at the end of the blue line.

Irineu Serra arrives in Rio Branco, Acre, and follows travel to the municipal district of Brasiléia (at that time known as Brazylia). Already in the rubber plantations of Peru, he meets with his cousins and fellow citizens Antônio and André Costa, as well as with the ritualistic drink Ayahuasca.

Mestre leaves Brasiléia, after the death of his second children (a daughter), Valsidrina, with only one year of age. He goes to Xapuri, does several handy works (even as a baker, with the father of Zé das Neves) and starts to take part in the Boarders Commission that was established in 1924 and lasted up to 1928, occasion in which he traveled through the whole Acre interior and drank Ayahuasca with different tribes (8).

After a long and difficult journey, a trait of every Brazilian migrant, Cipriano Carlos do Nascimento arrives at the mission of Irineu Serra one year after the rest of his family.

This newest Daime follower came to Rio Branco after Raimundo Gomes da Silva went in search of relatives in Pará, north of the country, returning to Acre with some family members, much like the journey of Mestre Irineu himself to Maranhão when he returned to Alto Santo with his nephew Daniel Serra, among others. The blue farda was instituted in 1972; the following year of Mestre Irineu's passage. According to Mrs. Percília, little before his death Mestre Irineu called her and said that, as soon as possible, there should be another uniform for the work days other than the holy nights (white farda); this way, in the beginning of 1972 was instituted the blue farda for the concentrations, the Holy Mass and unofficial hinários (15).

The formation of the Centro Luz do Firmamento Raimundo Ferreira – CLFRF (Light of the Firmament Raimundo Ferreira Centre).  Mr. Loredo was appointed as a Daime maker by Mestre Irineu himself and was authorized to make the brew in his own residence, located in the countryside in a colony located at the Barro Vermelho road.

Basically, Loredo was accompanied by his family in the process of organizing the center.  This is characterized today by a very informal structure, with few aspects institutionalized. Many of the former members of CICLU, and several of which have become the founders and leaders of new centers of the Santo Daime, passed through the group of Loredo. He is also a reference in Rio Branco of the Santo Daime tradition and is often sought by visitors, researchers and interested parties in this religion, because of their knowledge about the making of the Daime.

Importantly, this center has not adopted virtually no innovation in the whole ritual and doctrine established by Mestre Irineu, keeping the same structure of "works" and calendar of ceremonies, while emphasizing more the rites of healing. [Edited text from Sandra Lucia Goulart]

Mr. João Rodrigues Facundes kept the name CICLU until recently, when he chose as the name of his center the one of Centro Rainha da Floresta - CRF, and he returned to Mestre’s widow the original documents of the first juridical regulation of the social-religious work of Mestre Irineu’s doctrine"(3).

Early 90's
The Cefluris institutes in the opening of its works the saying: (brief) “In the name of God, The Father Almighty, of the Virgin Sovereign Mother (...) our work is open, my brothers and my sisters (12).

This elocution was introduced in the doctrine by Raimundo Irineu Serra, and according to words of Daniel Serra, Mestre’s Nephew, it was received by the hands of the Sovereign Virgin Mother, in an unknown date, being always used in the closing of the sessions and never in the opening. When Daniel Serra arrived in Acre, in 1957, this elocution was already being used in the works. In the old centers that follow the liturgy left by Mestre Irineu, as well as in its ramifications, the sessions aren't opened with formal prayers. In the case of hinário services, a rosary is prayed before the service.

The date marks the passing of Mrs. Percilia Matos da Silva, the hymnals' general manager and a key figure in the caretaking of the doctrine.

Dona Percília arrived at Mestre's mission when she was nine years old, in the mid-1930s, and was welcomed by him as a foster daughter after losing her father in 1937. Having been one of the first followers, Dona Percília would become one of the pillars of the community and witness to virtually every step that culminated in the doctrine we know today.

She watched over Mestre's work until her demise and left us as legacy not only her work as a pioneer, but also countless testimonials and instructions for future generations.

In the last decades, after Mestre's death, despite eventually having participated in the rituals in the traditional houses of Alto Santo, she never again occupied her post in the ceremonies as before and passed away without being affiliated to any center, living in her residence, in the city of Rio Branco, with her husband Pedro Matos.

In an article by Juarez Duarte Bonfim, of the Grande Bahia Newspaper, Roberta Graf -- a member of the CICLUJUR center -- retells the farewell, "I witnessed the fraternity wearing white uniform at the wake of Mrs. Percilia Matos da Silva, when was sung the entirety of "O Cruzeiro" and her hymnal. The procession was on foot, in the rain and mud of Vila Irineu Serra, to the cemetery of Alto Santo on October 27, 2004... It was unforgettable."

Céu do Ceará -- Church opened and commanded by Fernando Guanabara, following the calendar of the head center (Centro e Pronto Socorro de Cura Raimundo Irineu Serra – CPSCRIS), in Acre, where are held on the Saturdays that precedes the 15th - Star and Healing work; Saturday that precedes the 30th – Arrochim’s Line + the Official works. The church is located in "Garrote", Caucaia's district, approximately 15 kilometers from the city of Fortaleza - Ceará.

Since 2013 that the church Céu do Ceará cut ties with the Center and Healing First Aid Clinic Raimundo Irineu Serra and started to not being formally linked to any institution, keeping as patron Padrinho Nonato.

The Arraial from Alto Santo
The Arraial of Alto Santo
After 40 years without the traditional arraial held at the time when Mestre Irineu was alive, the Vila Irineu Serra united again to bring back a tradition from the roots of the Santo Daime, told in the words of the journalist Antônio Alves.

Some things are taken away by time... But one day it returns. Only those who are over 50 years of age can remember vividly the great arraiais* of the city of Rio Branco, in the time that they put chairs on the sidewalk to talk to neighbors, when the power plant put out the light before midnight and the radio went off the air, and the time of the great chills in the early Amazonian summer. Those who are now "old", still remember the oldest and their customs brought from the Northeast. Amid all, the celebration -- the arraial and the quadrille in country fashion, the forró and the typical dishes, the bonfire and fireworks... (read more)

Daniel Arcelino Serra

Mestre's nephew and president of the Estrela Brilhante passes away to the spiritual world with 72 years old, leaving on earth the legacy that he pursued in life, which was to implant the doctrine of his uncle in Maranhão, the birthplace of the family. The center is now commanded by his family.

According to Mivan Gedeon, secretary of the Estrela Brilhante,

"Carried by the 132 hymns of Raimundo Irineu Serra -- the founder of the Santo Daime doctrine --, devotees of the religion held on Friday, 20th, in Paço de Lumiar, the wake and burial of Daniel Arcelino Serra, the President of the Centro de Iluminação Cristã Estrela Brilhante Raimundo Irineu Serra. (...) The ritual, which started around 19h on the 20th, finished at 4am on the 21th. With the sunrise, Daniel's body was buried in the grounds of the Church, according to the tradition of the doctrine, which was born in Acre by the hands of a native from Maranhão born in the city of São Vincente Férrer, in the low lands of Maranhão. During the ceremony, the body was present in the main hall of the Church with the followers seated and singing the whole night. In the last hymn, the burial was carried out."
